About Dr. Cooper
Hello there!
Hello, I'm Kayla Carthel, a Master's level counseling student intern passionate about supporting individuals through life's challenges. I am excited to offer low-cost services at Cooper Counseling and Wellness, where I specialize in working with clients dealing with anxiety, depression, and relationship conflicts, as well as offering pregnany and postpartum support. My goal is to provide a compassionate, safe space where you can feel understood, valued, and empowered on your healing journey.
My Story
My background includes experience providing individual and group therapy to clients facing a variety of challenges, including trauma, anxiety, and depression. I have utilized evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Trauma-Focused CBT to help clients process difficult experiences and develop healthy coping strategies. For younger clients, I incorporate creative techniques, including elements of play therapy, to ensure the therapeutic process is both accessible and effective. These experiences have allowed me to create personalized treatment plans that address each client’s unique needs and foster their emotional well-being.
My own journey through a traumatic pregnancy and birth has profoundly influenced my approach to therapy. This personal experience gave me firsthand insight into the unique mental health needs of individuals during the perinatal period. It also inspired me to become a compassionate resource for women navigating similar challenges. I understand how critical it is to have knowledgeable and empathetic support during such vulnerable times, and I am dedicated to providing that care to my clients.

My therapeutic style is eclectic, meaning I draw from various evidence-based approaches to best support your unique journey. I use CBT to help reframe negative thought patterns, integrate Person-Centered Therapy to create a safe and nonjudgmental space, and apply Family Systems Theory to address the influence of relationships and dynamics on mental health. This flexibility allows me to tailor my approach to your specific needs, ensuring a collaborative and effective process.

What drives my work is the ability to build strong, empathetic relationships with my clients. I prioritize creating a safe, trusting space where you can feel truly heard and supported. Together, we will work toward your goals and help you navigate the challenges you face with greater confidence and clarity.
I am here to support you every step of the way, offering guidance and encouragement as you move toward healing and personal growth. I look forward to being part of your journey.
